THE TIMES 01/ 2003 Six of the best... Country hotels with six rooms Le Corps de Garde, Ile de Ré, France A summer bolthole for chic Parisians. Ile de Ré's newwest hotel is a supremely stylish experience. A 17th-century coastguard's house overlooking the harbour in St Martin, the seagrass matted rooms are furnished with antiques, white linen and yards of good taste. Breakfeast is served in the loft-like proportions of the flagstoned former boat house, but the nicest thing about the hotel is that the owners mix style with good sense : when my four-year-old nephew appeared, so did the CocoPops. |

HOUSE & GARDEN 04/ 2004 They bought their late -seventeenh-century home - Le Corps de Garde - five years ago. The five bedrooms overlook yachts and fishing boats moored under their windows. With antique linen on the bed, seagrass underfoot and windows hung with swathes of muslin, we feel more a friend of the family than a paying guest. |

CÔTÉ OUEST 08/2003 "We would like this to be our family home." These are the words written on the cover of the guest book of the "Corps de Garde" guest house. The island, the house - all inviting, feeling like one has always known such a house, such an island. Inviting one to advantage of every precious moment that can be offered. The unique view of ocean and quaint port merit contemplation. |

ILE DE RÉ HABITAT 06/2003 One can hardly believe that years ago these walls encompassed a military establishment. Now one sees only natural elegance, one feels only warmth. |
